Education watchdogs have issued a positive report card to an early learning training provider based in Bishopton.

Cairellot Learning Centre, in Greenock Road, provides training and qualifications to people working in the early learning, childcare, and school care sectors.

It was recently graded "very good" for its service delivery by officers from Education Scotland.

Inspectors also awarded a "good" rating for leadership and quality culture, as well as safeguarding and meeting the needs of apprentices.

The Education Scotland report states: "Learning centre staff work well as a team and demonstrate a culture of reflection and evaluation.

"They work collaboratively to identify areas for growth in provision and implement changes that benefit apprentices."

Apprentices reported having a positive training experience with their assessors, describing their working relationship as "supportive and helpful."

The report states: "Almost all apprentices confirm that the MA programme has enabled them to grow in confidence.

"Apprentices acknowledge that their training has equipped them with the knowledge and skills required for their job role."

Outlining what the provider could do better, the inspectors said the centre should ensure that self-evaluation outcomes underpin ongoing action planning tools for improvement and take action to improve attainment rates.

Martin Elliot, who owns Cairellot Learning Centre along with his mum Rosie, said staff were "very happy" with the results of the report.

He told The Gazette: "It's the first inspection from Education Scotland we've had in the 28 years that we've been going.

"We now have a benchmark to work from, as we now know 100 per cent what their expectations are, so this will allow us to continually improve."

As well as teaching apprentices, the centre also delivers assessor qualifications and is planning to expand into sports-based qualifications.

Martin added: "Cairellot Learning Centre was born to really grow Cairellot Nursery staff, and as our reputation grew, it's grown locally in Renfrewshire and now west central Scotland to deliver on a particular quality of childcare that our reputation lends us to.

"We look forward to continuing to do what we do best and continuing to improve as a learning centre."
